Match Summary
Chennai Super Kings built a strong total after recovering from an early blow. Sanju Samson fell for 7, but Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ayush Mhatre changed the innings with a 96-run partnership off 55 balls. Mhatre played the standout knock for CSK, scoring 73 off 43 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes, while Gaikwad added 28 off 22. At the death, Shivam Dube made 45 off 27*, and Sarfaraz Khan smashed 32 off 12, pushing CSK to 209/5.
Punjab’s bowlers had a difficult evening overall, but Vijaykumar Vyshak made the key breakthroughs with 2/38, removing both Mhatre and Sarfaraz, while Yuzvendra Chahal kept things tight with 1/21 in 3 overs.
In reply, PBKS attacked immediately. Priyansh Arya blew the chase open with 39 off 11 balls, including 3 fours and 4 sixes, helping Punjab race to 61/1 in 4.2 overs. That start changed the entire chase. Prabhsimran Singh then made 43 off 34, Cooper Connolly added 36 off 22, and captain Shreyas Iyer controlled the middle phase with 50 off 29.
CSK did create a brief opening when Iyer and Nehal Wadhera fell off successive deliveries, leaving PBKS at 186/5, but Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh kept their nerve and closed out the game. The official IPL report notes Punjab finished with five wickets in hand and 17 balls to spare.

Why PBKS Won
Punjab won because they were ahead of the chase almost from the start. Arya’s 11-ball assault removed scoreboard pressure, and Iyer’s innings kept the required rate under control. Chennai’s bowlers took wickets, but they never truly controlled the scoring. Only Matt Henry (2/54) and Anshul Kamboj (2/43) picked up wickets for CSK, and the rest of the attack leaked too many runs.
Final Verdict
CSK scored enough to expect a win at home. PBKS still chased it with authority. The difference was simple: Punjab were more explosive in the powerplay, calmer in the middle overs, and cleaner under pressure at the end.
